With these tips & tricks you’ll create the most beautiful eyeshadow looks. Whether you like subtle colours or full smoke eyes: applying eyeshadow can be a bit of a hassle. With these easy tips you’ll become a pro in no-time.
1. EYESHADOW BEFORE FOUNDATION
While you may be used otherwise, it’s best to do your eye makeup before working on your complexion. Often there is a bit of fallout when applying eyeshadow, which can stain on your cheeks. When applying your eye makeup first, you don’t have to remove the spots. Instead you can brush them off and easily apply your complexion products on top. Another way to prevent stains is to wear eye patches while applying your eyeshadow. This way you’ll have no fall out on your cheeks and get fresh, hydrated skin at once.
2. A SOLID BASIS
The lids are naturally more oily than the rest of your face. This will make your makeup fade quicker. To prevent your eyeshadow from disappearing, don’t use a heavy eye cream before applying it. On the other hand, an eye primer makes your eyeshadow last longer. A thin layer can already make a big difference.
3. YOUR EYE SHAPE
To decide on the best technique for your eyeshadow, it’s good to know which shape your eyes have. For example, if you have hooded eyes, where your upper eyelid sits a bit over your lid, it’s best to work upwards and outwards. The lid is more visible when you have round eyes, so you’d best work outwards and highlight the brow bone.
4. FIND THE CREASE
The so-called crease is the edge between your lid and the upper eyelid. There’s a natural shadow on this line, which is helpful when applying makeup. Use it to define the area where to apply your eyeshadow or accentuate the shadow by applying a darker colour on it.
5. FROM LIGHT TO DARK
If you like to use multiple shades, pick a combo of dark and light colours. Apply the lightest colour to the full lid and follow up with a small amount of dark in the outer corners. Start blending with your brush until the lines have faded. Still not satisfied? Apply another small amount of dark and blend again. Repeat this process until you are happy with your look.
6. WET BRUSH
By wetting your brush with water before dipping it into your eyeshadow, you will enrich the pigments. This will make your look even bolder. Another tip is to wet your brush with fixing spray. This will not only intensify colours and pigments, but also will make your makeup last longer. Make sure to mist it on your brush after you apply the eyeshadow, as this can create a film over your eyeshadow palette.
7. DEFINE WITH CONCEALER
Done with your look but still seeing some differences between both eyes? Blending won’t make it prettier, so fix it with a concealer. By applying a thin layer with a small brush, you can easily draw straight lines on both sides of your eyes. This is also a great hack to give your eyes more definition.
